The Church can be the safest place for a woman facing an unexpected pregnancy—but sadly, many women still walk through those doors in silence, afraid of judgment or rejection.
If we want to be a refuge for women in crisis, we need to be intentional. Here are practical ways your church can become a place of hope, healing, and help for women navigating pregnancy decisions.
1. Talk About It From the Pulpit
When pastors speak with compassion and truth about unplanned pregnancy, abortion, and forgiveness, it sets the tone for the entire congregation. Sharing stories of grace and redemption invites women to come forward without shame. Use your platform to affirm the value of both mother and child—and to remind your church that every life is worth protecting.
2. Equip Your Church Family to Respond with Love
Many people don’t know how to respond when someone says, “I’m pregnant and I don’t know what to do.” Provide training or host a workshop to help your congregation respond with empathy, not advice. The goal is to listen, offer support, and connect women with local resources like pregnancy centers.
3. Partner with a Local Pregnancy Center
Your church can serve vulnerable women by partnering with organizations that specialize in pregnancy support. Invite a representative to speak, host a Baby Bottle Campaign, donate supplies, or sponsor a room at the center. These partnerships extend your church’s reach and show women in your community that they are not alone.
4. Create a Culture of Ongoing Support
Being pro-life is more than being anti-abortion. It means walking with women for the long haul. Offer parenting classes, mentorship, or a support group for single moms. Help meet practical needs with meals, childcare, or baby items. Make sure she knows the church isn’t just here for her decision—it’s here for her journey.
5. Make Room for Grace and Healing
Many women in your pews are silently carrying the pain of a past abortion. Make it known that your church is a place of healing, not shame. Offer a post-abortion recovery Bible study or connect them with ministries that can help. When the Church creates space for healing, it strengthens its witness for life.
The body of Christ has a powerful role to play in saving lives—both physically and spiritually. When we show up with truth, compassion, and tangible support, we reflect the heart of Jesus. And that’s what every woman needs when she’s afraid, unsure, and looking for hope.
Let’s be that place. Let’s be that people.
